You know you're moving up in the world when Microsoft feels that itís necessary to make cartoon disparaging your products, in favor of their own wares. Pierre, one of the PHP developers, has found this gem on the French segment of the Microsoft site. I guess it means that PHP is making enough in-roads into the Enterprise market, that big fish like MS feel it necessary to spread some FUD as a stop-gap measure.
It acknowledges that the web is predominantly powered by PHP, quite an admission from Microsoft.
This is, surprisingly enough, is actually true, as PHP is about on about 1/4 - 1/3 of the servers on the net, far more then any other scripting language. The way it is presented, to me at least, implies that this assumption on behalf of ASP developers, for whom the ad is aimed at) is false, which is not the case. Hence "disparaging"
To be fair, thanks to Sean Coates's translation, I don't see anything disparaging in that. I think the general principle is the same however-- microsoft acknowledging that PHP is the technology leader for interactive websites. It seems that the cartoon is simply aimed at ASP or VB developers who aren't aware of whatever new microsoft web developer tools are out there.
It's usually not a good day when microsoft sets their sites on you as a primary competitor, but with PHP, it's kinda hard for them to come out with a free version of the software you're (not) selling, in order to put you out of business.
A little paranoid, are we not? You call this fud? Haven't you read the "anti-linux" piece on MSDN? This is hardly fud. It says "ASP.NET is cool too". While I beg to differ, they are not making any claims that "PHP sucks", or whatever.
