My slides from the "APC & Memcache the High Performance Duo" talk are now online and can be found here.
In the slide I mentioned that memcache is available of *NIX only, which thanks to at least two attendees I know to be incorrect. It appears that there is a working (albeit old, circa 2006) memcache win32 version, which you can find here: http://jehiah.cz/projects/memcached-win32/ Once you install it, you'd need to compile memcache PHP extension on win32 and then you should be set. Is it a good practice to store sessions in memcache? Is it safe enough ?
According to official memcached documentation, that is a bad practice, but there is also a link to page on pecl.php.net http://pecl.php.net/bugs/bug.php?id=11637 where I see these 2 ini directives : memcache.redundancy - when used from PHP memcache.session_redundancy - when used as a session handler Unfortunately , these directives are missing in official php manual so I am not sure whether memcache.allow_failover is the same thing. I need this for one project placed in the near future, so any suggestion would be a great help  Thanks Ilia Alshanetsky on :
Memcached does not have any authentication, so on a public machine it would not be secure. However if you have a dedicated server and memcached is only listening for connection on local IP range then it is as safe as file based session storage.
