I've just released a new version of Excel extension for PHP, v0.9.8. The main purpose of this release is to add compatibility for libxl 3.4. From the library ChangeLog there appear to be quite a few fixes to the library, so it looks like a worth while upgrade for most users.
You can download the tarball at http://ilia.ws/patch/php-excel-0.9.8.tar.bz2.

Thanks for the new Version and for the great extension in general! I have compiled it successfully. I hoped to get rid of a problem we had before 0.9.8 and 3.4.1 but it has not been solved with the new version of your extension and/or the new libel.
If we enter a simple nested formula in BIFF-Workbook
we get #VALUE error (#WERT in german) when opening the workbook. The error remains when entering a number in A2. But if after editing the formula once in excel the formula works without changes.
If we create the workbook as Excel 2007-Workbook everything works fine.
Can you reproduce this behavior and do you have any idea how to solve the problem?
I just came across this lib, I am using currently PHPExcel. Although it fulfills my needs I find it a bit slow for the enduser. So I would like to try this lib and see if its worth the licence fee. However I am unable to compile it.
Probably because of missing skills/experience in c.
Are there any pre-compiled libs which can be used on os x / windows ?
